About Marma
Sep 16, 2024Marma is an entire subset of Ayurveda that can be a specialty in itself and dates back as far as 2 BC. Marma are vital points in the body and number at least 108 (some argue more!) These marma points are where "nerves, arteries, veins, cranial bones and muscles intersect." They can be related to acupressure and acupuncture which evolved from marma. There are certain critical points that upon penetrating can cause immediate death. This knowledge was used in ancient battle fields to prevent injury on oneself or cause injury to another - so it was used in a way as a martial art called Varmakalai. They are also used to not only treat imbalances but to also detect them. It is a very interesting concept and important part of Ayurvedic healing. Read more in the interesting article below which includes a self massage using marma points.
