Women's health

Sep 16, 2024

This is a topic I am most passionate about and it is so broad! Women's health can be complex as there are many issues that can be faced. Women have an additional biological rhythm - Ayurveda can help. From trying to conceive, pregnancy, PCOS, menopause... you name it. Ayurveda also specifies a regimen for the post-partum period and care of the newborn baby. However most of the time, these issues and many others can be nailed down to our dosha imbalances with vata creating the most issues. Shatavari is a well known herb that can treat many women's issues but check first if it is right for you.

The menstrual cycle according to Ayurveda involves all 3 doshas. The first phase, when our period begins, is high in vata dosha. This is because we need movement to create a downward flow. The second phase is the re-building of our uterine lining and is affiliated with kapha. Finally the 3rd phase of our cycle has to do with pitta with all the hormones fluctuating. All of these can contribute to different symptoms from PMS to bloating etc depending on a person's constitution.

Ayurveda offers a different lens of looking at these issues, of which many women feel helpless and have little options. There are more options! I am giving you a few excellent resources here. Beyond that I would love to have a conversation with you if you are looking for help in this area.
